Committee On Aging

The Committee on Aging mostly heard updates from partner agencies and the Senior Center, with no major decisions on policy or spending. The biggest takeaways were service/program changes at the county ADRC and strong usage numbers at the Senior Center.

The county ADRC said it is discontinuing its “Powerful Tools for Caregivers” class due to low attendance and plans to replace it with other caregiver supports later this fall/winter—worth watching for what, exactly, replaces it and whether it’s easier for local caregivers to access.

The Senior Center reported heavy use in July (269 TRUST rides, 1,596 meal deliveries, and average daily attendance of about 109) and announced it has been accredited by the Wisconsin Association of Senior Centers, with a plaque expected in October.

A City Council update flagged an upcoming “listening session” on Aug. 16 and mentioned “new lead laterals,” a topic with potential cost and health implications—though the minutes don’t explain what’s being proposed or who would pay.

No public comments or communications recorded for this meeting.

A. Aging and Disability Resource - Wendy Hutterer
The ADRC shared several service updates: farmer’s market vouchers are still available; there’s an opening for a Dementia Care Specialist due to a staff departure; and there are two public openings on the Transportation Coordinating Committee. The ADRC also said it is discontinuing “Powerful Tools for Caregivers” because attendance was too low, and it plans to develop other caregiver supports by late fall/early winter—residents should watch for whether the replacement is actually more accessible and better attended.
City Council -Mark Bittner
A brief Council update noted members would be meeting the new City Manager after the Committee on Aging meeting and referenced a listening session on Aug. 16. It also mentioned “new lead laterals,” but the minutes don’t provide details—if this is about replacing lead service lines, residents will want clearer information on scope, timeline, and who pays.
Recreation Department Programs - Mike Mathis
The Recreation Department reported upcoming events (Paddle Palooza in September and the Neshotah Campout over Labor Day weekend) and said programming is going well and well attended. This was an informational update with no decisions attached.
Senior Center - Heather Ihlenfeldt
The Senior Center’s July report showed high participation and service volume, including TRUST rides, meal delivery, and fitness and congregate meal participation. The Center also reported it is now officially accredited by the Wisconsin Association of Senior Centers, with a plaque expected in October, and promoted upcoming events like the Aug. 6 Back to School Carnival and an Aug. 21 Senior Center Night at Concerts in the Park with raffles and free TRUST rides.
E. TRIAD
TRIAD reported ongoing safety and community-policing related activities, including selling Kwik Trip cards at the Senior Center, planning for school safety in August, National Night Out on Aug. 5, and Coffee with a Cop. This was a general update without any committee action.
G. American Legion Auxiliary
The American Legion Auxiliary shared that M. Weisner received an award and noted ongoing fundraising items (Kwik Trip cards and Wreaths Across America at $17 per wreath). This was informational and did not require committee action.
